Charcoal is a vanilla item, obtained by burning a wood log in a Furnace. It is similar to regular Coal, in that it can be crafted into torches and burned as fuel in Furnaces for the same effect, and even shares the same texture as Coal.

In Tekkit, you can convert 1 Coal into 4 charcoal and vice versa with use of a Philosopher's Stone. Charcoal cannot be converted to Coal Dust in a Macerator or burned in a Coke Oven to Coal Coke.
